"Because the truth of it was, I always felt like Baba hated me a little. And why not? After all, I had killed his beloved wife, his beautiful princess, hadn’t I?"
- Amir, Hosseini, 19

Amir was a child of neglect. He came into the world with guilt on his shoulders as his mother passed away whilst giving birth to him. After that his father, Baba, always treated him as if he brought shame upon their family. Baba betrayed his role as a father figure to his son. He had standards that were very hard to live up to and always expected Amir to be just like him. When Amir fails to impress Baba, the latter neglects him. This relates to the theme because the biblical quote says to abhor evil, in this novel, evil is in the form of betrayal. Baba betrays his role as a father, he treats Amir horribly because of a death that couldn't be helped.
