Quotation 1

"Whether, if you yield not to your father’s choice; You can endure the livery of a nun; For aye to be in shady cloister mewed."
 - Theseus (1.2.69-70)

Egeus rants to Theseus that his daughter does not want to marry the man he wants her to marry, Demetrius, and instead, she was enamoured by a different man named Lysander and wishes to marry him instead. Hermia does not love Demetrius and instead is very much in love with Lysander. Theseus states that if she does not marry Demetrius and follow her father's orders, she would either be put to death or banished to a nunnery. This relates to the biblical quote because it says "let love be genuine", Egeus forcing his daughter into marrying a man whom she does not love is disingenuous. Not only does Hermia no genuinely love Demetrius, but it also seems like Egeus doesn’t genuinely love Hermia if he is alright with his own daughter being put to death for not agreeing with him.
