“If I hadn’t seen the doctor pull him out of my wife with my own eyes, I’d never believe he’s my son”
- Baba, Hosseini, 25

Baba seems to be ashamed of his son, Amir. His mother died of childbirth, this causes Amir to feel horrible and unwanted by his own father. Amir truly feels like Baba hates him because his birth killed his mother whom is also Baba’s wife. The poor boy was frequently being neglected by his father, making him have an intense need for his father's approval, and attention just so he could feel loved. This relates to the theme because, Baba never really showed Amir real and genuine love growing up. Having a constant need of approval isn't how families should work, they should love each other genuinely and unconditionally no matter what, because that's what family is for, especially your parents.
