Egeus is forcing Hermia to choose whether to marry Demetrius or be banished into a nunnery. Hermia does not love Demetrius and wants to be with Lysander. The latter comes up with a plan to flee Athens together to live happily. They share their plans with to go to the forest with Helena. This relates to the theme because, Hermia agreeing with Lysander's plan means betraying her father and his wishes. He wanted her to be with Demetrius but she stubbornly stays with the man she loves and decides to run away with him.
