Quotation 7

"So will I grow, so live, so die, my lord, Ere I will yield my virgin patent up unto his lordship, whose unwishèd yoke my soul consents not to give sovereignty."
- Hermia, 1.1.80-85
Theseus states that the punishment for disobeying her father's wishes is to be put to death or banished into nunnery. Hermia then says back that she would rather wither away than to give her virginity to someone she doesn't love. Egeus is very persistent in having his daughter marry Hermia, not even taking into consideration how she feels. She loves Lysander, no one else, and she plans to run away with him to live together happily and elope, marrying and being with who they choose to be with. This quote relates to the theme because it shows the loyalty Hermia has for Lysander, she talked back to authorities claiming that she'd rather die than to marry someone else other than Lysander.
